Special thanks to my musical brother, Randy Rusk, for composing and supplying the awesome drum track as well as adding additional electric guitar parts. I played everything else including some electric guitar, but Randy plays electric... okay, fine... way better than me.

I'm releasing this on a Pay what you want basis. A dollar? Five dollars? Three thousand dollars and 56 cents? Whatever you wish. ...and if you'd like to have it for free, then please be my guest. The whole desire is not so much to make a bunch of money as to touch a heart here and there. ...but I won't turn down a bunch of money.
The Inspiration
"A Light in the Darkness" was inspired by Conrad and Paola Leslie and their quest to reclaim joy in their lives after their beautiful son, Nicholas, lost his life on July 14, 2016 in Nice, France. A terrorist deliberately drove a 19 ton cargo truck around barriers and into a crowd of people who were celebrating Bastille Day, watching a fireworks show.
Nicholas and 85 others lost their lives while additional 458 were injured.
While he and Paola were suffering deep depression, Conrad had a dream (or a vision) in which Nicholas told them not to mourn. They were wasting their lives and should, instead, actively pursue joy.
The two were hiking near a stream when Conrad told Paola about the visitation. She looked down and, among the thousands of river rocks, one immediately caught her eye. She picked it up and was surprised to see it had a natural crystalline formation growing on the top which clearly resembled the letter "J". Find Joy.
Conrad and Paola have been actively seeking joy ever since, in honor of their son.

I wanta be a light in the darkness,
Don’t want to be a part of the shadows,
Wanta be a light in the darkness.
Shine bright.
I wanta be a light in the darkness,
Don’t want to be a part of the shadows,
Wanta be a light in the darkness.
Shine bright.
The Good Lord giveth and He taketh away
The breath of every girl and boy.
Not one among us knows the number of his days,
But we can choose to live with sorrow or with joy.
Choose Joy. Choose Joy.
I wanta be a light in the darkness,
Don’t want to be a part of the shadows,
Wanta be a light in the darkness, I choose joy.
I wanta be a light in the darkness,
Don’t want to be a part of the shadows,
Wanta be a light in the darkness, I choose joy.
Is this a vision or a dream? I see you.
Standing here, before my eyes.
The waves roll in, the tide goes out,
I need to live in joy, though my heart cries.
Choose Life. Choose Life.
I wanta be a light in the darkness,
Don’t want to be a part of the shadows,
Wanta be a light in the darkness, I choose Life.
I wanta be a light in the darkness,
Don’t want to be a part of the shadows,
Wanta be a light in the darkness, I choose Life.
We were lost in darkness and I saw no way home,
No light, no glimmer from above.
But there beside a stream, I saw a shimmer from a stone,
There and then I knew the greatest gift is love.
Choose Love. Choose Love.
Joy and Life and Love.
Choose Joy and Life and Love.
I choose Joy and Life and Love.
I’m gonna be a light in the darkness,
Not gonna be a part of the shadows,
Gonna be a light in the darkness,
And shine bright.
