Insider Info

Save Me : This song, even to me, has multiple meanings so whatever it means to you, you're correct. That's what it's about. When I wrote it, though, this is what I was thinking...

Sometimes boards are stronger after they've been broken and then glued together again. Most things are actually stronger and/or better after they've been broken, as long as they can be properly mended or healed. The Japanese have an art, called Kintsugi in which gold is used to fill the cracks in broken pottery, making the pottery more beautiful and valuable than before it was cracked.

I believe human hearts to be much the same as broken boards and pots.

Lost love can shatter a heart, but a love that can endure will fill your cracks like gold. I know, because I now have a gold filled heart. It's a slow process, though, the healing of a heart.

Sometimes you know someone is gone and out of your life, but you can't get them out of your head. Everything reminds you of what you've lost. It haunts you, it maddens you, it consumes you. "Stop thinking!. Give me peace of mind! Save me from me!" Yup, been there. Save me from me.

You just have to get through it. Split your wood and sit by your fires and one day, when the unseen scars finally heal, you'll be set free, and your cracks will be filled with gold. Kintsugi!

The Recording: I finished the acoustic guitar (Angel!), drums and bass tracks and I thought I was going to have electric guitar throughout, but it didn't seem right when I tried it. Hmmm... maybe the time is finally right to use the accordion again. Nope, that didn't work. Maybe mandolin? Ooh, I liked the mandolin for this song, so I went with it. In the end, I used a little electric guitar as a fill and, at the very end, I wanted to add something to play the melody along with the mandolin, and I went with the clavietta. Fun! I like it! I hope you do, too.

Oh... and all of the harmonies are me, myself and I again. Wendi was busy quilting. :o)

Save Me

Words & Music by Ron Hall - All Rights Reserved Worldwide

I always believed when I wished on a star
I could have what I wanted if I wanted what I had
Well I don't have my lady but I've got this guitar
And my strings can sound so very lonely
And my songs can grow so very old
It was only for you wind was blowing
Wind, would you not blow so cold

Well I split all my wood and I sit by my fires
I've got snow in my boots and my feet and legs are tired
But it feels good just to sit here in this old rocking chair
Kick my boots off and rest with my eyes closed
Conjuring old memories
Do I hear your voice, are you singing?
It's only illusion, just wind in the trees

Save Me
Save Me

Stars fill the sky and dreams fill my head
The moon's in the window and I'm lying here in bed
The night, with its love songs, keeps calling your name
But the words are so lost in the distance
I can't quite make out the refrain
I pray to God, "Please give me this chance
To be safe in Your arms once again"

Oh, Save Me
Save Me

Your love will save me
Your love will set me free
Your love will save me
I know your love will set me free

Save Me
Save Me
Save Me
Won't You save Me

Won't You save Me
